The six artists selected for Futures have succeeded in reaching an important milestone in their careers, writes Pádraic E Moore
The annual Futures showcase of work by emerging artists at the Royal Hibernian Academy shows recent work by exciting artists who have begun to garner acclaim. Six artists (Bassam Al-Sabah, Cecilia Danell, Laura Fitzgerald, Jennifer Mehigan, Joanne Reid and Marcel Vidal) have been selected this year. The show offers an insight into the heterogeneity of contemporary art. While aesthetically and conceptually diverse, there are a number of unifying characteristics and tendencies shared amongst all the contributors to this year’s edition of Futures. In particular, there is a notable propensity towards appropriation, sampling, and various forms of collage.
