A new film and sculptural installation at VISUAL traces the steps of an Irish forester sent to rural Finland in 1946 to find trees of sufficient size and number for the rural electrification scheme in Ireland. Created by artists Adrian Duncan and Feargal Wood, ‘The Soil Became Scandinavian’ works with the same material (wooden electricity poles) to tell the story of this transformational scheme, which was instrumental in developing the social, economic and industrial life of Ireland.
