‘Excavations’ at the Oliver Sears Gallery is an exhibition of new works by Hughie O’Donoghue. For over twenty years, O’Donoghue has reinvented images of the shipwrecked ‘Plassy’ on Inis Oirr. In this work, the vessel is reincarnated as the Demeter, referencing Bram Stokers’ ‘Dracula’, and Murnau’s ‘Nosferatu’. Fire is the elemental force in a series of paintings depicting ‘Shaen’s Furnace’, inspired by an abandoned furnace close to the artist’s studio. A second O’Donoghue exhibition entitled The Red Earth will be shown at VISUAL, Carlow.
Excavations: 8 December – 26 January;
The Red Earth: until 29 January
