Dublin’s Oliver Sears Gallery hosts new work by London-born Samuel Walsh shortly. As the title of the exhibition, ‘Glance’, suggests, the artist uses the act of looking at something in a fleeting way to begin the artistic process. He first sketches in a notepad the lines that might form the informal structures of a landscape, a building, an object or interior. Walsh’s work has drawn colour influences from the hard edge of 1960s Pop Art although the brushwork tends more perhaps to the Abstract Expressionists. Walsh has lived and worked in Co Clare since 1990.
