Laurence Riddell’s ‘In Reality’ at the Oliver Sears Gallery reflects the painter’s interest in the horse as a subject. Rather than just sympathetically portraying them, Riddell seeks to express something of the human condition through his animal subjects, exploring themes of anxiety, tranquillity, claustrophobia and melancholy.
