Works by Dorothy Cross show as part of ‘KALEIDOSCOPE Mystics and Rationalists’, at the Modern Art Gallery, Oxford. Cross’ works repurpose found objects, from piles of driftwood to animal skins and bones, to create arresting new juxtapositions which oscillate between the humorous and the disturbing. Drawing on materials scavenged from the sea and the landscape surrounding the artist’s studio in Connemara these tactile sculptures recall the natural world and raise questions about our relationship to the environment.
