Heidi Wickham’s ‘Karnie: A Sootpeddler’s Banquet’ at the Hamilton Gallery is a new collection of works made in response to the artist’s involvement with theatre and festival décor. An eclectic ensemble of paintings and sculpture, these works give a nod to the surreal and dark side of carnival. Created using charcoal, pastel and acrylics, they contain references to, among other things, reliquaries and clowns.
