‘Jack Butler Yeats: Assembled Memories’ at The Model highlights the artist’s childhood in Sligo, where he spent many years being raised by his grandparents and immersed in the community and social life of the town. Yeats would go on to draw on the cast of characters he encountered there – sailors, street-sellers, clowns, balladeers and many others – throughout his long career, for works from his descriptive early oils and watercolours to his pathos-filled late paintings.
