Francis Bacon Portraits’ at the National Portrait Gallery in London presents works from the 1950s onwards that explore Bacon’s deep engagement with portraiture. Bacon challenges traditional definitions of the genre, both in his responses to portraits by earlier artists and his paintings that memorialise lost lovers.
