A first ever solo exhibition by artist Stephen Brandes is on display at the new Wexford County Council Headquarters. Brandes’ practice explores the interplay of word and visual language as a vehicle for storytelling, with particular reference to travel fiction and European traditions of absurdism and satire. Six large-scale works form part of Brandes’ series of large, highly detailed drawings in acrylic and permanent marker on floor vinyl, inspired by a journey through Eastern and Central Europe, following a route taken by his grandmother in 1913, who was escaping pogroms in Romania.
